What is web traffic?

Web traffic is the measure of visitors or users that visit a website. It includes people who are viewing, clicking, and interacting with the content on a website. This is an extremely important issue in terms of optimization and positioning, which allows you to check whether our strategy is effective, allows you to view the behavior of users on the website, gives you the opportunity to precisely target content and ads, and has an impact on the conversion rate.

It is an important metric for any website owner as it gives insight into how well a website is performing and how effective it is in attracting and keeping customers. Web traffic is also a valuable indicator of how well an online business is doing in terms of sales and customer engagement.

How to check the traffic on your website?

To find out if your website is receiving traffic, use two free tools which are Google Search Console and Google Analytics. In both panels, you will find important traffic statistics.

  • At GSC, we have access to traffic from key phrases entered into the search engine. In the “Audiences” tab, we have access to the source of traffic, in the “Acquisition” and “Behaviors and conversions” sections. In this way, we will receive data on the number of clicks on the link, the type of devices used by users, the location of recipients and the aforementioned keywords.
  • The GA panel is much more advanced, there we have access to four reports “Recipients” (the demographic data, such as: gender, age, devices and browsers), “Acquisition” (the source of traffic on the website, from where the recipients come from, “Behaviors” (the time spend on the website), “Conversion” (the value of traffic and its quality in terms of interaction).

Tip: Traffic on the competitor’s website

Navigating the online world requires website owners to track competitor sites to check their ranking. In this case, you can use tools such as Senuto, Semstorm and Ahrefs. These tools will provide detailed insights into a competitors performance in terms of keywords and link building efforts, helping you create a strong competitive strategy.

10 SEO-tips on how to increase traffic to your website

Conduct keyword research

Knowing which keywords your target audience uses to find products, services, or content related to your business is essential for optimizing your website for organic search engine traffic. The first step is identifying the most relevant topics related to your website. Use tools like Google Trends and Google Keyword Planner to help you determine which keywords are the most popular. Next conduct competitor analysis to understand how other websites are using the same keywords. This will help you develop an effective SEO strategy and identify any potential areas where you can differentiate yourself from your competitors.

Take care of metadata

Metadata helps search engines understand what your website is about. It also provides an indication to potential visitors about the type of content they will find on your website. It includes titles, descriptions, and keywords that are used to describe your website. Make it unique, original and informative.

Use internal links

Internal links are links on your website that connect different web pages together. This helps visitors navigate through your website, allowing them to discover new pages on your site and gain a better understanding of the content. Links help search engine crawlers understand your website structure and determine how relevant a page is to a particular keyword.

Update content regularly

This will not only help to keep your website current and relevant, but it will also help to improve your website’s ranking on SERPs. To keep your content fresh, you should aim to update existing posts or add new posts on a regular basis. Make sure you review the post for accuracy and relevancy. If any information is outdated or incorrect, make the necessary changes.

Write evergreen content and try guest posting

Creating evergreen content that is valuable, well-written, and timely can help you attract more website visitors. It remains relevant and useful for a long time. If you create content that is helpful and informative, readers will be more likely to share it and recommend it to others. This helps to spread the word about your website and increase traffic.

You can also consider guest posting on other websites in order to get your name out there and attract more website visitors. Writing articles or blog posts on other websites that are related to your niche can help you gain exposure and increase traffic to your own website. You may even consider offering free services or products in exchange for guest posts, which can further boost your website’s popularity.

Optimize images and use ALT Tags

Images can be an important part of your content and can be used to capture the attention of the reader. Ensure that they are properly sized and compressed for faster loading times. Using ALT tags is also important. It provides text descriptions of images, allowing search engines to crawl and index the content.

Try a heatmap

Heatmaps can help you understand the behavior of visitors on your website. It is a tool used to analyze user interaction with a website, by representing the data visually. Heatmaps can be used to find out which pages are being viewed most often and how people are navigating through your site.

Be responsive

Creating a responsive website is one of the key aspects for boosting website traffic. Responsive websites are optimized to look good on any device, so users can easily access it from their desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile device. It’s important to make sure your website is responsive because most internet users are now using mobile devices to access websites.

Improve page loading speed

Slow loading pages can be a major source of frustration for your visitors, and can even cause them to abandon your site altogether. It’s important to reduce the size of your files. Try using an image compression tool, such as TinyPNG, to reduce the size of your photos and graphics. Additionally, you should consider using a caching plugin, such as WP Super Cache, which will save copies of your web pages on the server and serve them up quickly when requested.

Look for promotion

One of the best ways to promote your website is through social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Posting content regularly on these channels can help you build an audience and engage with them. You can also use these channels to drive traffic directly to your website. You should also consider using Pay Per Click advertising.
